6 Towns | 6 Trails

Our Historypin Channel offers a unique virtual collection of tiles and architectural ceramics to be found in situ across The Potteries. It was created in partnership with a volunteer research team, the local community and a wider constituency of online contributors during a year-long heritage project that took place in 2013.

The Potteries Tile Trail project has been led by the national Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society (TACS) and funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) All Our Stories initiative.

Six introductory trails or ‘tours’ can be accessed via our dedicated channel using the Historypin website or smart phone app. You can also access six PDF versions of the trails. These digital documents can be downloaded and printed out to provide an alternative guide for the walks.

There are six ’tile trails’ – one for each of Stoke-on-Trent’s famous towns: Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton. The trails are aimed at local residents and visitors alike. They offer a selection of varied and interesting ceramics to be found on buildings and public spaces local to each neighbourhood. We hope the trails encourage more people to explore and enjoy the city’s wonderful ‘in situ’ ceramics. We also hope those taking part help us by contributing their photographs and comments to The Potteries Tile Trail Historypin collection.
